What is AI agent?

An agent is an LLM given tools (search, code execution, file access, APIs) and a loop: observe, decide, act, repeat until the goal is met. Unlike single-shot chat, agents can browse, write and run code, and self-correct. Coding agents like Claude Code are the most mature example.
